A British pub landlord claims he is being "held hostage" in a Spanish hospital with a £60,000 medical bill after his insurer refused to cover his costs because he had consumed alcohol. A mother has been fined after their family were stranded aboard and her daughter was forced to miss two days of school. The parent, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at North Staffordshire Justice Centre following her child's absence from school. The court heard how the family holiday resulted in the young girl missing school days in June 2024. The mother defended her actions by explaining that her daughter needed the break due to a health condition.

A man has been jailed after stealing £100 worth of Easter eggs from several shops in Nottingham. Jordon King, 28, of no fixed address, was sentenced to eight weeks in prison after a month-long crime spree. King also stole nappies and washing pods from supermarkets in Radford between February and March. CCTV footage captured King and an accomplice breaking down doors at a Tesco Express to escape with the stolen goods.
