IntroductionOver the past two decades, rapidly changing environments have challenged small and medium-sized enterprises’ (SMEs) business models and led to a drastic, rapid crisis management response (Ritter and Pedersen 2020). According to a survey by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), around 50% of SMEs reported a decrease in turnover due to the pandemic, with small businesses in the hospitality and tourism sectors particularly hard hit (OECD 2021).
