1. IntroductionThe post-operative alveolo-pleural fistula is one of the most common and insidious complications in thoracic surgery and the main limiting factor for the early discharge of patients from the hospital [1,2,3]. Intra-operative air loss during lung surgery has been reported to occur in 25–75% of patients [4,5], with persistent post-operative air loss (>5 days) occurring in 8–20% of patients [6].
