As the name suggests, bonus shares are shares given by a company to its shareholders without any charge. The number of shares always depends on the number of shares owned by the person to whom it has been shared. The aggregate of issued shares increases, but their ratio with each shareholder remains constant. When issued, the bonus is similar to a stock split, in which the company shares increase while the market cap remains constant. The underlying value of the stock remains the same.
