On Saturday Chelsea smelled like sewage. I try not to capitulate to the pathetic fallacy in writing, but sometimes the jokes write themselves. First I ducked into the WangShui show at Kurimanzutto. Their work has seemed interesting but oblique to me. Unfortunately I still don’t get it, even though—or more likely, because—the artist themselves was there in the exhibition space, conversing with the painter Maryam Hoseini for an audience of some fifty people.

I didn’t even drink, which is why there’s no wine in this week’s Spigot—sorry! If you find any typos, blame sobriety.

In Spigot this week, I got inspired by a chance geographic pairing of Martha Rosler and Syd Mead—present/past vs. future, seamy photomontage vs. lush gouache, "the real" vs. fantasy. FYI the Mead show is super fun. @sydmeadofficial https://t.co/m0toLuuYdN https://t.co/aF0oLEzcRT
