One of the hottest digital marketing trends of 2025 and beyond is going to be getting your content marketing picked up by AI search engines. While this might sound a technical and arduous chore, I have some good news. If you’re already creating high-quality content that satisfies search intent, adheres to what Google laid out in its helpful content update, and targets various SERP features, there’s very little to change. TLDR: The best quality content will still win.

Having been in the unified comms industry for half my life (now 17 years as of 2025), I’ve read a lot of blog posts. More than 75% of them go to waste. In fact, the first blog post I ever wrote for a UC company was pretty pointless too. It was quite good copy. I had fun writing it. My CMO thought it was great. But here’s the kicker. Nobody was ever going to see it. And herein lies the first of five repetitive reasons I see vendors’ UC blogs not working.

I want an easy life. There; I said it. And I don’t care who knows it. I want to do what I’m paid for extremely well and extremely efficiently. If doing that creates an easy life for me, who’s to tell me I can’t have one? We’re going to let off steam in this blog post. Autonomous freelancers have easy livesWhen you become a freelancer, it’s for a variety of reasons. You might crave independence, you may thrive working with multiple clients, or you may even like the process of attracting new business.

If you’re not already investing in organic content — content designed to be found on search engines — and you sell a Microsoft integration, partner solution, third-party product, etc., then you’ve been missing out on tons of website traffic and potential leads. People tell me SEO is getting harder. But my clients keep generating leads from organic traffic. Therefore, one of these must be untrue. I don’t think SEO is getting harder—unless you’re doing it wrong.

TLDR: The time you invest improving your subject matter knowledge and your craft increases your worth and sets you apart from other freelancers. I get asked by fellow freelancers how I can afford to go to conferences all the time. There are two major things to unpack here: Afford: I can afford to travel and spend unpaid days at conferences because I charge a figure that allows me too. My rate doesn’t correlate with time spent working; it reflects value.

Customer just asked me to remove an em dash because it looks like AI. I told him it looks like an em dash.

“Work on one thing at a time until finished.” This has always been my best advice to freelancers: - Close those tabs. - Shut off your second screen. - Mute your notifications. I promise you’ll thank me (and Henry Miller) in the long run. https://t.co/hCCVcXAlTi
