I don't know about you, but I know what I don't want in theatre. I don't want shows that drift on and on ... oh, except the shows that justify every moment of their three-hour-plus running time, such as Jerusalem or The Lehman Trilogy. Maybe the incoming Broadway smash Stereophonic (190min) will fit the same bill, as the New York reviews suggest it will. I don't want shows that feel like they are serving short measures either, not for these prices.

And for at least the first half of this 55-minute show, it's job absolutely done. Dressed ready for a Wild West gunfight in white shirt, waistcoat and ten-gallon hat, Gray fires out tightly written jokes galore with whipcrack assurance. Jokes against the status quo, jokes against herself, jokes about her penis - including the very issue in the phrase "her penis". Does her Essex loquacity resemble Russell Brand's? She has a line about that too.

Great musicals often end in great sadness — this five-star Fiddler shows why (my Sunday Times theatre column) https://t.co/d6zA6Mu8nz

Revealed: James Bond is back — but not as you know him. I talk to @MWCravenUK about his announced-today new series of Bond books for children, and to @VaseemKhanUK about his Q novels and Raymond Benson about his new Felix Leiter novel https://t.co/o4AgbXxgtq
