Dassault Aviation’s Falcon 6X has been cleared by European regulators for steep-approach landings, expanding the number of airports available to the ultra-wide-body business jet. Detailed in an update to the twinjet’s type certification data, the approval was disclosed by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency on 5 May. It permits the Falcon 6X to fly steep approaches of up to 5.5°, the data shows.

UK-based Windracers has secured another customer for its Ultra cargo drone, with the latest client promising to test the aircraft in equally tough operating conditions. Having already proved its worth to the British Antarctic Survey in operations near to the South Pole, the Ultra will now be put through its paces on the other side of the planet by the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), which has acquired two Mk1 examples.

A Norwegian start-up is hoping its small electric-powered ducted-fan engine for unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) can spearhead a move up the weight class into commercial aviation applications. Stavanger-based SiriNor – which has an engineering subsidiary in India – has been ground testing a subscale proof-of-concept version of its “tip-driven engine”, which successfully generated thrust of 22lb (0.09kN), taking the basic architecture to technology readiness level 6 (TRL6), the firm claims.

Rolls-Royce expects it will shortly receive US regulatory approval for a new high-pressure turbine (HPT) blade that will significantly improve the time-on-wing for the Trent 1000 engine. An option on the Boeing 787, the Trent 1000 has for several years struggled to achieve required durability levels of hot-section components leading to aircraft availability challenges for operators.

Dear @British_Airways I appreciate flights get cancelled for reasons beyond your control but to abandon a plane-load of passengers at Arricefe at midnight with no help finding hotels is beyond dreadful. An entire swim team was left to sleep on the airport floor, for example.
