Temperatures were some 30 to 50 degrees below normal across much of the country, all the way down to the Gulf Coast, with Nashville, Tenn. receiving up to eight inches of snow. Some of the storm’s coldest air fell on cities near the U.S. Canada border, including Chicago, where temperatures stayed below 2 degrees for several days. Buffalo was hit by blinding lake-effect snows as westerly winds blew the Arctic blast eastward.

It’s another day of brutally cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills across much of the United States. Monday promises to deliver the coldest temperatures ever for Iowa’s presidential nominating contest and hold up air travelers yet again. It will also test the mettle of NFL fans in Buffalo for a playoff game that was delayed a day by wind-whipped snow.
