Blessings my fellow anglers! Hope that you all had a restful Memorial Day Weekend. Thanks to all who paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms, many of which we take for granted. One being able to fish when and where we want and then write freely about our experiences on the water. Emily Lake: Lake Emily is a reservoir located just 3 miles from Willits. Fishermen will find a variety of fish including rainbow trout, crappie, largemouth bass, catfish, and bluegill there.

Not only is it a great Trout fishing lake, but it also produces some nice Large Mouth Bass. Because the lake has a 5 mph.

Ukiah Valley Fish and Wildlife ClubThe 2025 Steelhead season has officially come to a close, with a total count of 854 Steelhead for the season!While there are still two troughs to feed daily, water to the facility was shut off on May 1st, marking the closure of the fish ladder. The final spawning event was held on April 22, and the Fish Facility closed its gates to the public the following day, on April 23.

Blue Lakes: I little bird told me that they thought they saw a Fish and Wildlife truck last week at the Upper Blue Lake. Was there a trout plant? The trout fishin’ has been pretty fair . The best places to fish are; The Blue Lakes Lodge, Pine Acres, and The Narrows Resort docks. Here is my trout fishin’ tip for you all. If the the water is calm like glass, rig your pole with a slip cast float bobber with a 24 inch leader and salmon eggs on the hook.

Spring is when bass spawn. Usually when the water temperature reaches 60 to 65 degrees. Males are moving into the shallows right now looking for the best place to make a nest. After the nest is made, it becomes a waiting game, as they wait for a female. So after the whole spawning thing takes place, the females leave and return to deeper water. The males will stick around for two to three weeks defending their turf, guarding the nest. After that, the hatch is left to fend for themselves.

Help!- Poaching of fish has increased to huge proportions over recent years ! Especially, on our local waterways. That is a great concern of mine and many of my fellow anglers… Last week, late afternoon Teresa and decided to go fish our backyard lake, Lake Mendocino. As we started fishing we noticed several groups of people fishing along the shoreline. Taking a closer look I noticed they all had buckets that held the fish they were catching.

Bass LOVE muddy water! – Matter-in fact, I do too! I always hook more bass in muddy water. Its not as tough as you think to catch fish when the water looks like “Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.” Many bass anglers can often lose confidence and begin to struggle when the water turns muddy and starts to rise but, its all in their heads. Rising muddy water means more food and more food means aggressive bass. Don’t let water color scare you.
