    Pabst Brewing Company was established in 1844. Brewing a beer originally named Best Select and then Pabst Select, Pabst renamed the beer as Pabst Blue Ribbon, supposedly following its win as "America's Best" beer at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. Although the veracity of the 1893 win is debateable, Pabst Blue Ribbon has enjoyed popularity since, most recently among millennials and hipsters who perceive it as unpretentious and independent.

How do smaller, more local maltsters work with their local breweries to help meet their goals, needs and make sure they have everything they need? What are the benefits of having your maltster nearby or on speed dial? Are there any challenges to breweries just using local malt as well?

    In a presentation for members, the Brewers Association recently reported that single-can sales of craft beer are catching up to sales of 4-packs, traditionally the preferred pack-size for off-premise sales of craft beer. The Brewers Association is the not-for-profit trade association dedicated to small and independent American craft brewers. The increase in single-can sales is occurring despite overall craft beer sales being flat, against a backdrop of overall beer sales declining.
