To the editor — Reinstating Amtrak service to Yakima is laughable. In recent years, Congress has given $2 billion per year to Amtrak! That is because Amtrak cannot attract enough passengers at reasonable prices to cover all of their expenses. The U.S. Transportation Department is just dreaming when they float ideas about expanding train service. We have existing air and bus service between cities, as well as (generally) well-maintained roads for car travel.
