Today, Synology announced the availability of its second NAS server for 2025, the DiskStation DS425+ for the US market. It’s a four-bay server, similar to the DS925+ that was released earlier this month, but with lower hardware specifications and capabilities. The first thing to keep in mind is that the new server, like all Plus servers released in 2025 and later, is designed to comply with Synology’s new storage requirements.

At less than $100, the U7-Lite, first announced on March 3, 2025, along with the similarly specced U7 In-Wall, is a modest access point, as the name suggests. However, if you don’t need the top Wi-Fi coverage or bandwidth, or live in regions where the 6GHz band is not available, it’s an excellent way to add Wi-Fi 7 to your network, preferably one hosted by a UniFi console. You may have noticed that I’m not a fan of using VPNs unnecessarily as a way to be “secure” or “private” online, even when you’re at home. However, when used for its factual purposes, a VPN connection offers undeniable benefits. For example, when you’re traveling (such as during summer vacations), it can be instrumental in accessing services available only at home, or in ensuring that you’re shielded when getting online via random Wi-Fi networks on the road.

Today, Synology announced the official US availability(*) of its first model year 2025 NAS server, the DiskStation DS925+. The new server is more than just a typical incremental upgrade to the previous DS923+, in the sense that it may not even be an upgrade at all. In more ways than one, the new DS925+ is arguably the most significant hardware release in the entire history of Synology’s Plus (+) server lineup, though unfortunately, not necessarily in a good way. Let’s find out more.

The U7 Pro XGS, first released on March 11, 2025, together with the U7 Pro XG, is the 10Gbps and thermal upgrade to the U7 Pro Max. It features a faster uplink port and a more effective heat-dissipating solution, albeit at a slightly higher cost. Here’s the bottom line: If you’re in the market today for a UniFi Wi-Fi 7 access point and already have a 10Gbps-capable UniFi console, the U7 Pro XGS is the natural option to add or extend Wi-Fi coverage.
