Over the past four decades, Chau has exhibited extensively, curated more than 50 exhibitions, taught art, and co-founded an art center. In 2024, Chau received the Moss/Chumley North Texas Artist Award, recognizing his contributions to the North Texas art community.

    Tacita Dean is possibly the most significant artist not widely known in the U.S. This will be remedied on Oct. 11, as the Menil Collection in Houston presents the first major museum survey of her work in this country, Tacita Dean: Blind Folly, on view through April 20, 2025. Dean came of age in the 1990s alongside artists like Damien Hurst and Tracey Emin, and is considered one of her generation’s most important British artists.

    Thanks to a gift from Chicago collector Madeleine Plonsker and her husband Harvey, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, now has the most complete collection of post-revolutionary Cuban photography anywhere—nearly 400 works by some 80 artists. For two years, MFAH photography curator Malcolm Daniel and MFAH research associate Raquel Carrera have been organizing Navigating the Waves: Contemporary Cuban Photography, which opens Sept. 29 and runs through April 13, 2025.

    Imagine installing seven massive Flemish tapestries, each measuring 14 feet tall and 28 feet wide. The Kimbell Art Museum had to make significant adjustments to its galleries to accommodate these masterpieces, part of Art and War in the Renaissance: The Battle of Pavia Tapestries, which will be on display through Sept. 15. “The walls in the largest gallery in the Renzo Piano Pavilion are normally 10 feet tall,” said Jennifer Casler Price, curator of Asian, African, and Ancient American Art.
