The city of Roseburg and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 have agreed to a phasing out of MedCom, a partnership formed in 1995 to ensure all areas of Douglas County had sufficient ambulance coverage in the case of emergencies. Rob Bullock, Douglas County Fire District No. 2 Chief, told the City Council at its Oct. 9 meeting that MedCom had essentially run its course. "The time (for MedCom) has come and gone," Bullock told the Council. "MedCom had its purpose early on, but I think that has left.

POWERS — The second-ranked Powers Cruisers moved one step closer to a Class 1A Special District 2 South six-man football title with a 64-18 rout of visiting Riddle Friday afternoon. With the win, Powers improved to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in SD2 South, and will host Elkton for the district title next Friday. COQUILLE — Kacey Benefiel and Elijah Earls connected on a 78-yard touchdown pass, Cooper Howard booted a 36-yard field goal and the South Umpqua Lancers moved one step closer to a Class 3A football state playoff berth, beating Coquille/Myrtle Point 10-0 in a Far West League showdown Friday night.

GLIDE — Jayden Williams rushed for a pair of touchdowns and the Glide defense kept Reedsport out of the end zone in a 19-0 victory in a Class 2A nine-man Special District 3 football game Friday night. Williams ran into the end zone from 5 yards out in the second quarter to put the first points on the board, and added a 2-yard TD run in the first quarter for a 13-0 Wildcats lead. "Our offense was consistent, but our defense last night was lights out," Glide coach Daryl Watkins said.

SUTHERLIN — Markis Boehm and Aksel Cardenas-Gil scored goals in the second half and the Sutherlin boys soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over visiting Gold Beach in a Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 4 match Friday afternoon. Sutherlin got the jump on the Panthers in the sixth minute when Brayden Shaver scored on a header off a centering pass from Zach Radmer, but Gold Beach answered with a Lacey Finlay goal in the 23rd minute to knot the match at 1-1.
