Nation records zero cholera cases since 2020

The country has not recorded any case of cholera since 2020, after one case of the disease was recorded in 2019, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has said. The progress has been attributed to factors, including improved access to potable water and lavatories, public adherence to hand washing with soap under running water and strict surveillance by the GHS.
NHIA reviews prices for services, medication

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has reviewed upwards the prices of medicines and services paid to providers and suppliers on the health insurance scheme, with effect from yesterday. It has also reviewed the list of medicines on the scheme to include, Artemether Injection 50mg/ml, which is widely used for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria (Plasmodium falciparum), and Levofloxacin Infusion, a drug used to treat bacterial infections in different parts of the body.
WHO commends Ghana for eliminating sleeping sickness-As world marks NTDs Day

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has commended Ghana for eliminating sleeping sickness, one of the neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). The elimination of the disease, also known as Human African Trypanosomiasis, brings to three the number of NTDs eliminated in the country. The other two are Guinea worm, which was eliminated in 2015, and trachoma, eliminated in 2018.
French Embassy supports digitalisation of WASH

THE French Embassy is supporting the country to digitally transform the delivery and management of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Known as “Embedding digitalisation Innovations and circular economy in WASH (DICE-WASH)”, the project is expected to enhance service delivery and youth employability. The expected outcomes will include the use of digital solutions in water and wastewater utility to automate processes, improve customer management and experience, as well as support decision-making.
AG report fallout: Health Ministry moves to renegotiate COVID-19 vaccine contract

The Ministry of Health has given an assurance that efforts are being made to renegotiate the vaccine acquisition contract with the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) as recommended by the Auditor General’s Special Report on government’s COVID-19 expenditure. However, it did not state emphatically if the renegotiation would facilitate the recovery of the outstanding balance of $81.87 million for the unsupplied vaccines.

The Ghana Health Service will from today to January 24, roll out the latest phase of a nationwide mass COVID-19 vaccination exercise to help increase the uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine. The exercise is the sixth in the series of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Days Campaign launched in February last year, to enhance uptake and information flow. For this latest campaign, all people aged 15 years and above, including pregnant women, are eligible to receive the vaccine.
Making payment convenient: Health Minister calls for review of NHIS Act

The Ministry of Health has called for a review of the National Health Insurance Act that has scheduled the payments of outstanding claims to service providers from within three months to four weeks. This is to enable the ministry to be able to have a more convenient payment schedule as the four weeks required now was short and prone to challenges.
