Results This study examined 6 907 859 individuals and 45 327 cases of incident schizophrenia during a follow-up of 129 521 260 person-years at risk. Table 1 shows characteristics of the study population, and online Supplementary Fig. S1 shows the distribution of date of birth of the cohort. The unadjusted hazard ratio (HR) for people with CUD to be diagnosed with schizophrenia was 30.18 (95% CI 29.31–31.08; p < 0.001).
