“Pay attention to what it is you are looking at” is a line I’ve been pounding into my daughter’s head since she was 4 years old. Last week she showed me she learned the lesson. Not everyone has learned this. There is a group trying to create some hype about prices paid for cattle in Nebraska this week. We have been mentally conditioned by predecessors to be obsessed with market topping cattle.

This week auctions were mixed. Some weights sold steady to higher, and some were lower. I know people want the market to continue to go up. A healthy market trades up and down while maintaining a general upward direction. At least now we know the market is not chronically ill. That last line may have given some readers pause. After all, this market has been so forgiving. It has gone up so much it has bailed us out of our mistakes and problems. Just a couple weeks ago I hauled some pairs in to sell.

VECTORBOMB-THINKSTOCKPHOTOSWild. That word is being used a lot right now in cattle market conversations. There is a lot going on in the markets. For some people, it is a lot to take in and try to make sense of. For some people who don’t understand how to utilize the markets, this is frustrating. The people who do have the skillset share stories of capturing some wild profits. Personally, what I think is wild is the abrupt change in some people.

Study your lesson. It doesn’t matter what you think or what the never has beens in the educational space say. All that matters is what free market tells us when the cowboys open their checkbooks. #sellbuymarketing #ranching4profit #cashflow https://t.co/SEsgOSa5V8

What they won’t tell us about trade. By focusing on what he wanted one rancher cut his COG 43%. There’s no reason for margin calls if the producer has marketing skill https://t.co/hMLlVaVSuj #cattlemarketing #sellbuymarketing #ranching4profit
