The Daily Wire’s first theatrical release, Am I Racist?, asks a question worth pondering. It stars podcaster, author, producer, and provocateur Matt Walsh, who also starred in the 2022 documentary, What Is a Woman?[1] This time, Matt goes undercover by posing as a DEI expert to explore and expose the anti-racist or woke establishment. What he finds is not favorable to the cause, to put it mildly.

zero comment Postmodern philosophers once hailed “the death of the author,” which was part of their strategy to decenter meaning in texts and free culture from the tyranny of metanarratives. Meaning cannot be found in a text without discerning the author’s intentions. All such controls and stipulations should be rejected as authoritarian. Objective meaning must give way to subjective and constructivist accounts of texts. “Truth” is only a power ploy.

I write cards of condolence as often as I can. This is an art. I endeavor to enter someone’s sorrow, to restate what they might be experiencing. I do not offer cheap consolation. I lament with one who has lost a friend or relation or who is suffering ill health (Isaiah 50:4). I often teach through my cards, so I recommend books to read and other resources. My mother was a champion letter and card writer. She never missed a birthday, anniversary, or holiday. She wrote to me frequently and at length.

The film Reagan, while largely panned by critics (as I expected, given its conservative message), is well acted, dramatically compelling, and historically accurate. But it is also a sign of contradiction to our zeitgeist and political landscape.
