Police have charged a third man with attempted murder in connection with an exchange of gunfire in Wilson earlier this month. John Junior Kearney, 43, of Wilson is charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property and one count of habitual felon, according to Sgt. Eric McInerny, public information with the Wilson Police Department.

SIMS — When the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina truck arrived at the Family Food Basket last week, the delivery was much smaller than usual. “I know this time, we didn’t get hardly any canned vegetables,” said Rebecca Dew, a longtime volunteer at the nonprofit food distribution site on Old Raleigh Road. Food banks across the region are experiencing similar drops in food deliveries.
