Cristopher Sánchez gave the Phillies everything they needed — and then some — in Thursday’s 6-4 win over the Giants to salvage a split in the four-game series. A career-high 12 strikeouts and seven innings of work? Not bad for your No. 4 starter. The big lefty was flat-out nasty, spinning changeups like a magician on the corner of Kensington and Allegheny. He got 11 of his 12 punchouts with the changeup alone, throwing 50 of them on 97 total pitches. San Francisco never had a chance.

The return of Ranger Suarez is inching closer by the day — and so is a tough decision for the Phillies. Suarez made his second rehab start Wednesday night with Single-A Clearwater, throwing four innings, striking out seven, and allowing just one run on 54 pitches. His sinker sat comfortably at 91–92 mph, a good sign as the Phillies continue to build him back up from early spring back stiffness that delayed his season debut. Next stop: Double-A Reading or Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

If you’re looking for a turning point in the Phillies’ week, don’t look to Aaron Nola. He’s not just searching for answers—he might need a search party. The veteran right-hander got lit up yet again on Wednesday night as the Giants rolled into Citizens Bank Park and smacked Philly around in an 11-4 beatdown. Jung Hoo Lee was the star of the night. The 25-year-old outfielder singled, doubled, drove in two, and basically did whatever he wanted at the plate.

Alec Bohm might not be doing much with the bat this season, but last night, he delivered an absolute masterclass of a moment that deserves recognition by hitting home plate umpire Clint Vondrak with the ABS Challenge signal complaint after yet another ridiculous called strike. The ABS Challenge signal was used during MLB Spring Training games as the league continues to usher in the thought of switching over to robotic umpires.

Atlanta was getting blown out in their NBA Play-In Tournament game against the Orlando Magic, so what does Trae Young do with under five minutes left and the Hawks trailing by 20? He hits a floater, fires the ball at the ref, gets T’d up… and then kicks the ball away for good measure. Boom. Double tech. Ejection. Game over. Iconic. TRAE YOUNG HAS BEEN EJECTED FROM THE GAME AFTER HITTING A NASTY NUTMEG 😭 pic.twitter.com/NH3I6E4P8h— Playmaker (@playmaker) April 16, 2025 I loved every second of it.
