A third man has been remanded in custody accused of conspiracy to commit arson attacks on two properties and a car linked to Sir Keir Starmer. Ukrainian Petro Pochynok, 34, of Holloway Road, north London, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court today accused of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life. It is alleged that he conspired with fellow Ukrainian Roman Lavrynovych and Ukrainian-born Romanian national Stanislav Carpiuc.

The Home Secretary has pledged to introduce new powers to ban foreign intelligence agencies seeking to recruit "criminals, proxy groups, misfits and private investigators" in the UK. Yvette Cooper said the government would emulate counter-terrorism legislation to plug gaps in areas including proscription to ban organisations such as the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC).

Britain may need anti-subversion laws to counter threats from states determined to undermine democracy, a government watchdog has said. Jonathan Hall KC, the independent reviewer of state threat legislation, is due to report this week on using counter-terrorism laws against state interference. Mr Hall was asked by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to review whether there were elements of counter-terrorism legislation which could be emulated to address state-based security threats last December.

Three neo-Nazis who stockpiled weapons including a 3D-printed assault rifle are facing "substantial" prison sentences after they were found guilty of plotting a terrorist attack on a mosque in Leeds. Counter-terrorism police found an arsenal of more than 200 weapons that included crossbows, swords, machetes, axes, a baseball bat and numerous hunting knives, following raids on properties in Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
