There are now 110 members of the International Olympic Committee, 48 of whom are women. It may, therefore, come as something of a surprise to discover that in 1983, the year President-elect Kirsty Coventry was born, the organisation she is about to lead had only three women. The IOC membership was entirely male until October 1981 and had been so since its foundation in 1894. Zeus Files is a reader-supported publication.

History will be made in Lausanne on Monday when Zimbabwe’s Kirsty Coventry officially takes over as the first female and African president of the International Olympic Committee. The 41-year-old double Olympic swimming gold medallist will be only the 10th person to lead the IOC in its 131-year history and the youngest since Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympics, who was 33 when he took over in 1896.

It followed a decision of the Commonwealth Games Federation Ethics Commission being published on its website. Donald Rukare, President of the Ugandan Olympic Committee, has been installed as the Interim President with a permanent successor expected to be appointed at the next General Assembly in November 2025.

Thanks to @Darlington10 for the great review of my book “They Came From A Land Down Under” in the @MaidenheadAds and which charts how I went from programme editor at @sloughtownfc to award-winning journalist https://t.co/d3R7VuktuX

Brilliant news that the @Socceroos are off to the #FIFAWorldCup for the sixth consecutive time! It wasn't easy, coming from behind against Saudi Arabia in Riyadh and needing a late penalty save from Matt Ryan, but they did it! Never, though, forget the pioneers of 1974 who did it

QUALIFIED!!! 🙌🤩 For the sixth consecutive time, we’re going to the #FIFAWorldCup ✈️🌎🏆🇨🇦🇲🇽🇺🇸 #Socceroos #ForeverGolden https://t.co/hGhsOfZ9Rq
