    For years, people recommended this thing to me. My father-in-law runs a weekly book club on Sunday mornings and this is the ONLY book they read. He calls it ‘the good book,’ so I finally picked it up on a stay. It’s not really that good a book at all. I was about halfway in, when I realized it had all just been prologue.

    Telling people you cannot do something because you have to write always works as a power play. It makes the person to whom you speak feel woefully inadequate with their intention to 'hang out' or 'grab some drinks.' Might even inspire them to do something more productive with their own time. Five days to NaNoWriMo. People who use outlines when they work might use their writing time in these last few days to build out those little numbered lines and list their plot points. That's not how I do it.

Dylan Brody is a Red Clay Scholar and doctoral student in educational theory and practice. The three write today about the importance of writing and the impact of the Red Clay project in Georgia over two decades.
