    No one was injured Wednesday night after several hay bales being carried on a trailer driving on Interstate 15 spontaneously combusted. “That happens this time of year,” St. George Fire Department Battalion Chief Rick Nelson told St. George News. “The heat the bale internally puts off as it’s drying.”When fire teams arrived, Nelson said, they detached the tractor from the trailer and moved it forward, giving water hoses better access to the hay and removing the tractor from the area of the flames.

    Animal lovers of all kinds were treated to a fashion show Saturday at the Hilton Garden Inn, featuring the latest summer trends. While they were at it, they raised some money for RSQ, a nonprofit animal rescue service in St. George. “This is one of our favorite things to do and we are thrilled to be able to do this for RSQ today,” Elizabeth Groves, president of Southern Utah Ladies Society, told St. George News.

    Search and rescue teams from Santa-Clara Ivins Fire Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office used ropes to rescue a fallen hiker in Snow Canyon State Park on Saturday. “Inside lava tubes in one of the caves,” SCI public information officer Ryan Moore told St. George News. “It’s dark and cold down there, the hiker tripped and sustained injuries to the lower leg," he added.

    Seven people were evaluated for injury Wednesday evening after three vehicles collided on state Route 9 near Rockville. Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Tyler Ames told St. George News that two of the vehicles appeared to be badly damaged. “All of the airbags in the three vehicles did deploy,” Ames said. Ames said that a total of seven passengers involved, all of whom were able to extricate themselves from the vehicles on their own.

    When Crimson Cliffs won the 4A state championship at Bruce Hurst Field on May 17, the trophy represented more than the Mustangs’ third baseball title in the last four years. It was also the fifth Crimson Cliffs sports team that won a 4A state title featuring senior McKay Wright. Wright’s fifth championship ring will join the other two he earned in baseball (his freshman and sophomore years) and the two he won in football (his junior and senior seasons).
