New Year’s resolutions are promises we make to ourselves. Social learning is something we do together, pooling our individual reflections to reach what we hope are wiser conclusions. In a free and democratic society, politics should be a vibrant school for social learning.

With Leo, there’s no going back from Francis. Leo is no carbon copy his predecessor. Moderate cardinals saw him as a conciliator in a divided church. But in standing for social justice & more inclusive governance, he’ll build on Francis’s legacy My column https://t.co/xxrOUq1MyK

The next pope should embrace Francis’s open spirit, his dedication to “the peripheries,” & his commitment to the poor, the marginalized, the excluded & migrants. My colleagues David Von Drehle, Karen Tumulty, Ramesh Ponnuru & I on the Catholic future: https://t.co/v6VqKe581t
