What I offer to my employer is a body with a particular set of training and skills; whatever personal connections I have to the work, be it my life history, my personal identities, or personality, are pineapples on the ham: sidelined aspects that might be useful to people with particular tastes. Teaching is really no different, as much as those of us in the profession would have you believe.
