PERRY TOWNSHIP — Usually when you hear about a kid competing at the national level it’s in athletics or academics competitions, but Perry Township’s Sophie Powell will be competing for the 2025 Junior Miss Agriculture USA this month. The sixth grade Commodore Perry Elementary School student is the daughter of Jess and Danielle Powell and helps her dad on Powell Grain Farms. In fact, last year she planted barley as a cover crop all on her own.

We are less than six weeks away from what may be the last Heritage Days festival on July 12, and the committee is gearing up to put on a great event. In January, Heritage Days Committee Chair Jean Fisher-Carr announced she would be stepping down as committee chair because she’s running for Greenville mayor. Unless someone steps up, this will be the last year for the festival, according to Carr-Fisher.

Greenville High School senior Teage Calvin's family has been very supportive of his high school wrestling career. So, it was only right the whole clan gathered to watch him sign his letter of intent to attend American University (AU) and keep his wrestling career going for four more years on Wednesday. Calvin wrapped up his career with the Trojans with a 114-35 record which saw him be a two-time Section 2 champion and an 8th place PIAA medalist his junior year.

EAST FALLOWFIELD TOWNSHIP — While Pearl Harbor may be a day which lives in infamy, for many long-time first responders, May 31, 1985, is a day they would never like to see repeated. It was the day an F4 tornado wiped the small Crawford County village off the map. Tornadoes ripped through western Pennsylvania that day and left a toll of 69 dead, 700 injured and millions of dollars of property damage. When Greenville native Tony Reames’ next film, “Mister X,” debuts, longtime fans of the horror genre are going to quickly identify a cult celebrity making an appearance in the film — Joe Bob Briggs. Briggs, whose real name is John Irving, is well known as a writer, actor, film critic and host of Shutter TV’s “The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs.”For Reames and Renegade Films, landing Briggs was a pretty big coup. “This was huge personally for me; I’m such a huge fan,” Reames said.
