Fair or not, 2025 is all about the postseason for the Phillies, which unfortunately is mirroring the run made by the 2009-11 clubs. Good teams. Couldn’t get to the finish line. Those clubs, chronologically, lost the World Series, then lost in the LCS, then lost in the divisional round. That nucleus had won a World Series in 2008. This current one has not. That group was leaking oil by the end of its run. This team still has a window open … for now.

Whether it’s the woman at Iowa who honored Caitlin Clark the best way possible or the freshman at Fairleigh Dickinson who hit the ground running and hasn’t stopped, there’s local flavor in the women’s NCAA Tournament beyond Coach You-Know-Who at South Carolina. Here are 25 things to know about the field starting with the star in South Bend, by way of South Jersey, who has been omnipresent on ESPN’S commercials and is part of the future of the college game. 1.

There might not be any local teams in this year’s NCAA Tournament, but there are plenty of local players. The SEC dominates the discussion, but there are other stories, too. St. John’s is a contender for the first time in decades, there’s a Martelli who will charm the national stage, and Montana might not be around for long, but they have a player we all can root for. Don’t fill out that bracket just yet. Here are 50 things to consider. 1.

When the Eagles played Kansas City in the Super Bowl two years ago, Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie wore uniform No. 21. When the two teams line up again on Sunday, he’ll be wearing No. 22. Here’s why. McDuffie was a rookie in 2022, and when the Chiefs’ equipment people assigned him the No. 21 he kept quiet. He really wanted No. 22, but that belonged to veteran safety Juan Thornhill and McDuffie wasn’t interested in making a fuss. No. 22 is the number McDuffie’s late brother wore.

The last time the Eagles played a Super Bowl in New Orleans they were tighter than a grandfather clock. Star running back Wilbert Montgomery described the Eagles locker room just before the game. “I came into the clubhouse, and it was kind of silent,” Montgomery told the Daily News’ Stan Hochman that night in January 1981. “There wasn’t all the hollering we usually have. I felt it in the air that the team might be a little timid playing in this game.”They sure were.

Reminder for my NE Philly friends *leaving* the Phillies game that the Front St. ramp to I-95 North is closed. Gonna be a total clusterflub trying to go through Delaware Ave to the entrances near Christian St. Go have dinner in South Philly afterward, let the crowd thin out.

yeah, don't bark at the ticketwriters this weekend it'll take a referendum to the state constitution to change the law prohibiting wagering of college sports games played in NJ it originally was a tradeoff to get support for the push to break Nevada's monopoly on sports-betting

Reminder to all NJ bettors: we are not permitted to offer the Duke/Arizona game or the BYU/Alabama game. This is to protect the integrity of these NCAA games being played in our state (per our politicians and actually the voters who failed to get this corrected a few years ago).

The block pool ramifications at the end of that Baylor/Mississippi State game were magical.
