Chris Samuels, who runs the Wellington in Feltwell, turned his back on an award-winning gastro offer to go entirely wet-led and has seen impressive results. “We bought the pub in 2013, it was a sawdust and spittoon style of venue, good for cocaine and fight, but not somewhere you’d take your mother in law,” he told The Morning Advertiser.

Thomas J Vosper, who runs Historic Pub Crawls on social media and has created a series of books promoting trails through London and beyond, has done a deal with Sphere, Little Brown Book Group. The deal will see Vosper’s first two volumes of Historic Pub Crawls Through London published on 29 May, while Historic Pub Crawls Through England will land on shelves from 24 July with Historic Pub Crawls Through New York following on 6 November with plans for further titles into 2026.

A recent poll on a social media group for licensees revealed that only one percent of pubs was going to be staying open an extra 2 hours. At the time of writing a huge 88% of respondents said they would be closing at the normal time, while a further 10% said they would play it by ear and close when they think its right to do so.

Posting on social media, Steve Corbett, who manages a golf course in Essex, asked “do you charge less for a lager or bitter shandy or do you still sell at the full rate?”. The questions sparked furious debate and divided members of a pub forum with those advocating for charging the same as the price of a pint, while others charging for a half of beer and half of lemonade. Steve posed the question as he said he’d been getting “grief” from some of his bar customers.
