    It was hailed as the “Valley relief train” and it was one of the first rescue units to reach the city by rail after the disastrous 1917 Halifax Explosion. Within hours of the explosion, the Dominion Atlantic Railway (DAR) made up a relief train in Kentville and sent it to Halifax. The train carried doctors and nurses from several Annapolis Valley towns.
