INTRODUCTION The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network shows the prevalence of autism has increased to 1 in 36 for 8 year olds (Maenner et al., 2023), with Black autistic youth (BAY) now making up ~30% of this population; suggesting that the diagnosis disparity between Black (29.3%) and White (24.3%) youth has narrowed (Maenner et al., 2023).
