There we go, then. The club football season is over (in every country that uses the European calendar). A raft of finals and deciders this weekend made or broke the dreams of many clubs. We also — apparently — finalised the 237 teams that will enter UEFA competitions next season while also finding out who would be the champion of this year’s biggest one. And in the end, it wasn’t even close.

FootBiz on a Wednesday! What a treat. With everyone in the UK and the USA enjoying a (bank) holiday weekend, a massive Tuesday newsletter seemed a touch aggressive so we have shifted to Wednesday this week and may continue with that through the off-season as we look to focus on more content for our premium subscribers. That includes events, and the plan remains for our first US-based event to take place on the eve of the Club World Cup final. Stay tuned for more information on that.

It was a game of huge consequence. Of these two Premier League goliaths, two of the 10 richest clubs in the world (and the top two by operating income, per Forbes) only one could win, and in turn save their season by qualifying for the Champions League. For that winner, this year’s embarrassing Premier League performances could be somewhat forgiven, if not forgotten. 100 million reasons for the pain to be softened and to believe that the future could be brighter. For the loser, darkness.

I love this part of the season. The part where everything is finally decided, where it all makes sense (or often doesn’t) and where promotions, relegations, trophies, goodbyes and all of it play out. The tears, the smiles, the feelings are what football is about at its very core.

You know that feeling of being ready? Where everything is in its correct place, your socks are pulled up, your laces tied perfectly, you’re physically and mentally prepared and it’s go time? I’d love to feel like that today. I don’t, but I’d really love to. I do think Oliver Glasner feels like it though, as my team Crystal Palace prepare to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

John Textor is attempting an audacious takeover of Crystal Palace but faces competition from the New York Jets owner Woody Johnson as the battle for control at Selhurst Park heats up before the club’s appearance in the FA Cup final next Saturday https://t.co/1TA9YmR588

I would quite like to be the striker playing in front of Olise, Musiala and Wirtz

🚨🔴 As exclusively revealed months ago: it still remains the clear plan of the Wirtz family and the player to first move to Bayern, and then perhaps take the step abroad at some point in the future. Bayern are still very optimistic that the transfer will go through as early as https://t.co/u93XWewjRC
