Andrew Levy and Simon Bartholomew grew up there, as did I, and when we meet Bartholomew quips, “We probably passed each other on the Uxbridge Road”. For all of its many charms, something Ealing has never had is a live music scene or nightclubs of note. Like any music lover from Ealing, Levy and Bartholomew had to venture into London to explore the world of clubs and live music, where they found The Cat in the Hat Club, a place that would prove pivotal in the path their lives would take.

Growing up in his parent’s pub, The Two Puddings in East London, where his father Eddie put on concerts by the likes of The Who and The Kinks, Johnson was surrounded by and fell in love with three of the pivotal artforms in his life - music, TV and film. Music was to be Johnson’s chosen artistic calling, but from the first note of The The’s debut album Burning Blue Soul his fascination with the immersive nature of the music of films he watched as a child was implicit.
