The news that Clayton Miller, 14, had died after a traffic crash involving his e-bike was tragic, and especially poignant for Meg Stepanian. Fifteen years ago, Stepanian, now executive director of the Fifth Avenue South Business Improvement District, was the victim of a hitand- run while cycling on Immokalee Road. She said she’s “heart-sick” over what happened to Miller on March 15.

VENICE — Marla Salezze owns a company called Beaded by Marla. But she doesn’t sell her finished jewelry. Instead, she sells kits and instructions for numerous beadweaving projects in various color palettes for people to purchase and make their own jewelry. Those kits can be purchased online through her website, beadedbymarla.com. Salezze is a past instructor and current program director at the Venice Art Center. She also is a longtime member of the Florida West Coast Bead Society.

"I pass that smile on everywhere I go," Binion said. Senior citizens in Southwest Florida face an array of issues in their daily lives that may curtail smiles. Some in the area’s elderly population battle memory loss.
