The developers behind a planned solar array at Natural Bridge Station are seeking a revision to the timetable in which the energy facility is to be up and running. Implementation of plans to develop the USS Hilltop Solar LLC 3.0 megawatts solar array on 41 acres of a 157acre farm was to have commenced by this May 1 and be completed by the end of this year under a special exception permit granted by the county in January of 2024.

New Director Gives Update To CouncilA new skateboard park has been proposed for Buena Vista on vacant city-owned land on the west side of the 1700 block of Magnolia Avenue. This proposal was reported to City Council this past Thursday by Jen Carpenter, executive director for Main Street Buena Vista. At Carpenter’s request, Council adopted a resolution in support of MSBV seeking grant funding for the project.

There is a dearth of day care options for working families with children in the Rockbridge area. In fact, a recent child care study, undertaken by the Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project Inc. (SERCAP) at the behest of the Rockbridge County Economic Development Department, indicates that our area is a “day care desert,” in comparison with other localities elsewhere in the state, which affects our community adversely and needs immediate attention.

Many of the toxic risks posed by the former GM site on Ontario Street in St. Catharines are clear. As previously reported by The Pointer, Environmental Site Assessments obtained after a two-year fight with the City and GM officials who fought to keep the documents hidden from public view, revealed contamination of a number of harmful substances at levels that exceeded established limits by thousands of times when the studies were undertaken in 2010 and 2012.
