    Two angels had been sent by the Lord to warn Lot and his family what was about to happen and take them away from Sodom. Lot, however, “lingered.” His infatuation with Sodom seemed to know no bounds. In response, “the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city” (Gen 19:16). The Lord, through these two angels, took a reluctant family away from what would otherwise kill them.

    A team of Anderson University students spent nine days sharing Christ’s love in the heart of England. They ministered in May at OIKOS Church, located in Erdington, a suburb of the city of Birmingham, England’s second largest city. If the name OIKOS sounds Greek to readers of this article, there’s a very good reason for that. OIKOS is the Greek word for “family/household.” OIKOS Church exists to live out what it means to be the family of God in a community of diverse ethnicities and beliefs.

    My goal in this article is to briefly consider a specific pastoral question: What is a wise approach to those in your church who see a secular therapist? Since this question is part of a long and winding road, we will make a couple of stops before we arrive at an answer. The modern therapeutic era made its first obvious appearance with Sigmund Freud (1856–1939) and his associates in the early 1900s. The Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung (1875–1961) was among those associates.
