A 120-year-old letter in a bottle offering a snapshot into the hardships of life under the rule of Russia's last Tsar has been found hidden in Poland. Penned in May 1905 by a local blacksmith named Karol Szulc, the 'time capsule' letter was discovered during conservation work at the 16th century Benardine monastery in the village of Kazimierz Biskupi.

Officials in Poland say they have received a letter identifying the location of a legendary Nazi gold train which went missing in the closing years of WWII. According to the letter dated 23 April, the sender who said he wants to remain anonymous found 'camouflaged train carriages' hidden in a tunnel near the southwestern city of Walbrzych.

A treasure trove of gold and jewellery has been found buried on the side of a mountain in what historians say could have been an attempt to hide it from invading Nazis. Hikers came across the 15.4lb (7kg) hoard worth over £250,000 after taking a short cut on the wooded slopes of the Czech Republic's northeastern Podkrkonosí Mountains.
