It was in the visitors’ dressing room at the Intuit Dome after the 69th game of the regular season when Naji Marshall emphatically said there was nothing wrong with having to win a play-in game on the road. “Hell, no,” he said when asked if it made a difference where the Mavericks played. “If we’re healthy, it won’t (matter).”We can only hope Marshall’s telepathic skills are repeatable. The Mavericks smacked Sacramento late Wednesday night and now have to do it again against Memphis on Friday.

If he had a mulligan, Nico Harrison would stick with his first shot. Of course the Mavericks’ general manager and president of basketball operations has heard the catcalls, the chants, howls from a relatively small percentage of Mavericks’ fans that still harbor traitorous feelings toward Harrison for the trading of Luka Doncic. Doesn’t matter.

It’s been a physical battle, of course, with injuries upon injuries. But what about the mental aspect of tuning out the noise created by the Luka Doncic trade and avoiding any woe-is-us thinking when the players were dropping fast? “We’re lucky that the season isn’t over,” Kidd said.

P.J. Washington could have been speaking for the entire Mavericks' organization on Monday. "I've never been a part of a season like this," he said. "(All you can do is) stay positive about it. We're here in postseason play and a lot of teams don't even get this opportunity. I tell everybody to make the most of it and see how far we can go. Obviously, we feel like we can make the playoffs and that's the goal." It truly has been "one of those years" for the Mavericks.

Luka finishes with 45 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Lakers roll over the Mavericks late for a 112-97 win. Mavericks now 38-42 and will almost certainly play at Sacramento next Wednesday in the play-in opener.
Mavericks in a tough spot now, down 101-93 with 4:42 left. LeBron James has done the damage in the second half after Luka did so in the first.
