    The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners held a public bid opening on April 14 for the construction of a new building out at the Circular Butte Landfill. The county received five bids for the work, and no bid has yet been selected as the winner. The county is planning to build a new shop building at the landfill in Terreton, and began advertising for bid on the work back in March. They asked potential contractors to estimate the cost of an eighty-foot by one-hundred-twenty-foot metal building.

    The Rigby City Council has approved the expenditure of additional expenses from the capitol improvement fund for the City Library Elevator Project. Following their January approval to modernize the building’s elevator and bring it up to code, Library Director Brittney Fielding has approached the council with additional need in the project.

    As West Jefferson School District #253 prepares to begin the annual budget process, they will be holding a public hearing for their patrons to review the proposed budget for the upcoming school year. The hearing will be held before the Board of Trustees’ regularly scheduled meeting on June 11. There will be three separate hearings beginning at 9 a.m. and following consecutively.

    Laney Peterson is the 16-year-old daughter of Heather an James Peterson of Idaho Falls. She is a junior at Technical Careers High School in Idaho Falls and is a part of the Dogs Gone Wild 4-H group. Laney's projects are with dogs, horses and raising a goat. Her favorite part, she said, is how working with her dog helps create a strong bond between them.

    Harwood Elementary will be working with the City of Rigby to find solutions to a potentially hazardous traffic issue in front of the school, caused by low visibility of stop signs. The Rigby City Council, on April 3, elected to have Public Works Director Mitch Bradley investigate the different types of solar-powered or blinking signs they could possibly install near the school to create a safer area.
