    Fees have increased for students hoping to take Driver’s Education at West Jefferson in the upcoming year, as have some fees for the spectators of athletic events, as the West Jefferson School District #253 Board of Trustees approved three separate fee increases for the upcoming year during their June 11 regular meeting. The fee for the school’s Driver’s Ed course has been increased from it’s current cost of $150 to $200 per student.

    Since Idaho’s switch from county-operated public defense to the new statewide public defense agency which occurred officially in October 2024, the county has been providing facilities for the state-selected defender, John Stosich. Following a short conference on the matter, the county has indicated they don’t mind the continued future use of their facilities for this purpose.

    Following public hearings on the amended budget for the previous school year and the proposed budget for the upcoming year, the West Jefferson School District #253 has moved to approve both budgets. When the board originally passed the budget for the previous school year (2024-25) the total budget amount approved was $7,631,404. The newly approved amended budget was for 8,136,086.

    According to statistics shared by Jefferson County Assessor Jessica Roach in her June 9 statistics presentation to the County Commissioners, a shift in the demand for homes within the county does not necessarily denote a downturn in the market. The average sales price in 2024 for houses in the county was $489,900, a 90 percent increase over a decade ago when the average was $165,036.

    Jefferson County will be joining in on a mutual aid agreement between the counties of the north east Emergency Management region which will allow the counties to work together and share resources during emergency situations. Nine Idaho Counties including Jefferson, Bonneville, Madison, Teton, Fremont, Clark, Butte, Lemhi and Custer Counties make up this region and will also consider approving the Memorandum of Understanding for the mutual aid of county departments.
