    Bellator MMA, as fans know it went away in 2023. Poor management and disinterest from Paramount Global led to the brand being picked up by the Professional Fighters League (PFL). The roster of fighters from what was long considered the number two promotion next to the UFC was going to get their own “Champions Series,” which started with a PFL vs. Bellator event to showcase the brand under the PFL’s umbrella.

    Anatoly Malykhin will defend his ONE Heavyweight MMA World Title against Senegalese Wrestling Champion Oumar “Reug Reug” Kane. ONE 169, originally scheduled for Atlanta, Georgia, is still happening on Friday, November 8, at 8 PM ET on Amazon Prime Video from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium. But the two heavyweights seem eager to get their hands on each other during fight week. Before and during the press conference the two behemoths had to be separated when they were in front of one another.

    Robert Whittaker suffered a first-round submission loss to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 308 when Chimaev sunk in what looked like a choke but was more of a crank to Whittaker’s skull. The painful submission saw Whittaker tap quickly when the pressure of the attack was locked in, and it seemed like it may have dislocated his jaw, which can happen with this kind of submission. This is similar to how Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted Conor McGregor at UFC 229, but much quicker.

    The current Bellator Middleweight Champion, Johnny Eblen, successfully defended his title last weekend in his rematch against Fabian Edwards at the PFL’s “Battle of the Giants” event. He’s now 16-0 and seemingly in his prime for mixed martial arts. The 32-year-old Eblen knows the shelf life of a professional athlete–especially in combat sports doesn’t last forever.
