    A recent news item indicates that 46% of Republicans and 25% of Democrats agreed that “the country is in crisis and needs a strong president who should be allowed to rule without too much interference from courts and Congress.”Presumably, all would add, “But only if he’s my choice.”In America, we have felt the sting of unaccountable power vested in kings; indeed, this experience gave rise to both the country’s inception and conception as a liberal democracy.
