    It’s rare for me to take notes when I’m reading a comic I plan to review because I’m trying to preserve my reaction to it. For me, the truth exposes itself without the need for planning. I did open this document while I was reading, and the only note or coherent thought I could put down was, “Oh my gosh.” The urge to take notes was quickly overtaken by tears. Spectrum #1 from Mad Cave Studios is a beautiful, heartfelt comic by Rick Quinn (writer) and Dave Chisholm (artist, and letterer).

    Announced earlier this summer, The Body Trade is a neo-noir thriller written by Zac Thompson (Cemetery Kids Don’t Die, Into The Unbeing), drawn by Jok (Forty Coffins), and lettered by EISNER AWARD WINNING letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (so many comics).     This October, DC Comics is launching a new initiative called All-In, and one-half of this initiative is a line of books aimed at revamping the classic heroes for a new generation called Absolute Universe. This is old fare for DC; their bread and butter have always been reimaginings, but this one has my undivided attention.

    Sometimes I open up a comic and it’s by someone I have no familiarity with and it’s outstanding; I’m leaning in, hanging on every single word like my life depends on it. Ninjak vs Roku is one of those “holy shit who is this?” comics. I don’t have a long history with the Valiant Universe and even less knowledge of these characters but writer AJ Ampadu makes me feel like I’ve been reading them my whole life.
