China's stands at 18 trillion. What is needed is a kind of 'economic Article 5' similar to the one the Nato defence alliance has in its statutes. A clause that commits us to joint defence against enemies.

    My latest CEPA column—link here, and posted below—is on the end of the most successful geopolitical alliance the world has ever seen. It sounds apocalyptic, but it’s true. The choice is between more dismal decline under Harris, or a rapid collapse under Trump. It’s hard to overstate how fed-up the countries bordering Russia feel with this administration’s vacillation and timidity. And it’s hard to overstate how nervous they are about Trump returning.
