China's stands at 18 trillion. What is needed is a kind of 'economic Article 5' similar to the one the Nato defence alliance has in its statutes. A clause that commits us to joint defence against enemies.

The choice is between more dismal decline under Harris, or a rapid collapse under Trump. It’s hard to overstate how fed-up the countries bordering Russia feel with this administration’s vacillation and timidity. And it’s hard to overstate how nervous they are about Trump returning.
