COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Weather Impact Alert is in effect Sunday and Monday in South Carolina. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK issued an outlook for severe weather for Sunday. There is a marginal risk for counties along and north of Interstate-20, from the northwest Midlands, extending southwest along the interstate to the Central Savannah River Area, then north to include all of PeeDee and northwest including all of the Upstate.

The potential for tornadic activity in South Carolina significantly increases from the month of February to March. Spring season carries three of the top four most active for confirmed tornadoes - March, April and May. Like South Carolina, the Southeast region states from the Lower Mississippi Valley to the Southeast Atlantic ramp up severe weather season, even before the Spring Equinox.
