Eileen Yam

Eileen Yam is director of science and society research at Pew Research Center, where she oversees the Center’s efforts to understand the public’s views on emerging scientific developments and issues that affect our society and lives. Prior to joining the Center, she spent two decades conducting social science and public health research in more than 20 countries with the Population Council, International Center for Research on Women, Abt Associates, and Mathematica. Previously, she was a health writer for A. Magazine: Inside Asian America, a researcher for National Geographic Magazine, and content designer for Carrot Fertility. Her qualitative and quantitative research experience spans public opinion surveys, health product introduction research, program evaluation, behavioral surveillance, user experience (UX) research, and news content analysis, with a focus on gender, race and ethnicity, and youth. Her research has been widely published in academic journals such as Lancet Global Health and Journal of Health Communication, as well as featured in international news outlets. She has served as a review editor for Frontiers in Reproductive Health, and as a World Health Organization research reviewer. She holds a doctorate from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, a master of public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Yale University.
