I am standing in a rather frou-frou, Belle Époque style theatre called Teatro Verdi in the middle of La Boca, the south easterly working class neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. Once a month this theatre plays host to a night of milongas, a traditional party for locals to come and dance. Tables and chairs line the room in anticipation of a tango.

Smoke seeps onto a pristine white runway as two men crawl out from backstage to the drone of an 80s synth. They stand up looking confused, as though they’ve ended up on stage by accident. One pulls on a jumper and the sound of thunder crashes through the auditorium. The men gaze up at the ceiling in anticipation. As if in a panic that the weather is about to turn, they begin to put on layers and layers of clothing. A knitted jumper around the neck, a jacket on top, another coat on top of that.

Amid the hustle, bustle and endless content creation of fashion month, you may have missed it: a grainy video showing a woman in a fluffy dress emerging from the sidelines of a major SS25 show. She stomps down the runway, hips swaying, holding a placard that reads: ‘F*CK FEATHERS!’ Alas, the shaggy figure only gets about halfway down the runway before being tackled by security.
