Now on May 7, 2025, we have the maltreatment of Haverford President Wendy Raymond.

The U.S. has now experienced more than 100 days of Trump’s power. His strategy of flooding the zone makes it difficult to focus on the actual harm to real people. The human mind is overwhelmed by enormity. How many of us have momentarily confused billions with trillions — a difference of only one letter but a super-highway stretch in dollars? For many, it was the story of Anne Frank that brought home the reality of 6 million Jews lost in the Holocaust.

Throughout my higher ed career, wherever I have roamed, on the periphery of my attention I have always thought positively about the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP), founded in 1964, with a current student population of 12,400 credit and 1,381 noncredit students. Just as I am a permanent Phillies and Eagles fan, I have a forever regard for Philadelphia colleges and universities.

When I read that the Trump administration cut Princeton’s research funding on global warming because it increased “climate anxiety” among young Americans, I thought of the lyrics from musical geniuses Lerner and Lowe’s description of “Camelot” from the play of the same name:It’s true! It’s true! The crown has made it clear.The climate must be perfect all the year. But, alas, we are not living in Camelot — a mythical place dedicated to justice, truth and the Arthurian way.
