Coming off of a series where the UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey team got swept by #2 ranked St. Norbert College, the Blugolds had two WIAC battles against Northland College and UW-River Falls on Dec 6-7. After losing 2-1 against St. Norbert in tight fashion in the second game of the series, the Blugolds got off to a quick start against Northland College Friday night. First-year forward Nolan Grier got on the board for the Blugolds at the 6:51 stamp with a powerplay score.

The UW-Eau Claire men’s basketball program entered the 2024-25 season with a new look and arena to play in. On April 4, Zach Malvik was named the 11th head coach in program history. At Winona State from 2003-2007, Malvik was a DII National Champion in 2006 and an All-American in 2007. After having assistant coaching roles at Saint Mary’s University and Winona State, Malvik became an assistant coach at UW-Green Bay in 2023.
UWEC cross country program finishes third in WIAC Championships

The UW-Eau Claire cross country team raced in the WIAC Championships in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on Saturday, Nov 2. Both the men’s and women’s teams turned in third-place performances. The women’s team was led by third-year Keeley Behr who placed sixth with a time of 21:41.3 in the 6k. On the men’s side, fourth-year Mason Shea earned WIAC first team honors for his performance. He came in at seventh place with a season best time of 24:13.8 in the 8k.
UWEC football falls in I-94 rivalry against UW-Stout on road

UW-Eau Claire football traveled on the road to play rival UW-Stout in the war on I-94, Saturday, Oct 26. The Blugolds looked to end their 8-game losing streak in matchups against Stout. After Stout won the toss and deferred, meaning they elected to receive the ball at the start of the second half, the Blugolds got off to a quick start, scoring on their first possession. The drive was propelled by three first downs and a six-yard touchdown pass by Harry Roubidoux to wide receiver Yaach Chuol.

UW-Eau Claire men’s soccer headed into a matchup against conference opponent UW-Stevens Point on Oct 26. coming off of a 7-1 victory over UW-Stout a week prior. That momentum translated into a 13-goal program record for the Blugolds Saturday night as they shut out the Pointers at home 13-0. The Blugolds got on the board in the seventh minute off a goal by second-year forward Noah Malcook. It was his third on for the season and second in two games.
UWEC women’s volleyball extends winning streak to five games

The Blugolds’ faced Bethel University on Friday. They headed into the match with a four-game winning streak and ended it by extending the streak to five. They did so off of a sweep that concluded in 47 Blugold kills and 62 points versus Bethel’s 31. Third-year setter Ella Kiebel, who had a team-high 40 assists, talked about the team’s offensive game plan heading into the match.

Carson Kowalski, WIAC Defensive Player Of The Week for Sept. 16-23, and the Blugolds had a busy week facing Luther College and the No. 8 ranked University of Chicago. Kowalski shot on the goal and played all 90 minutes in a 3-3 decision against Luther on Sept. 18. The honor given to Kowalski is a testament to all of his hard work and preparation heading into the season.

UW-Eau Claire cross country hosted the Blugold Invitational at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax on Friday, Oct. 4. It was a good race for the program as the women claimed first place in the 6k with 58 points, while the men’s team took second place in the 8k with 57 points. The women’s team average race time was 23:06 and the men’s average was 25:16. Third-year runner Keeley Behr discussed Friday’s team win. “Felt really good.
