LGBTQ+ young people in the UK face many unique challenges that can impact on their mental health. February marks LGBTQ+ History Month, a time to reflect on the progress and challenges faced by the community. The theme of this year’s LGBTQ+ history month is activism and social change. It’s meant to highlight the importance of standing up for LGBTQ+ rights and mental health support. Last year we helped 54,878 people with their mental health and wellbeing.

The origins of Christmas gift-giving are rooted in tradition. Giving gifts at Christmas reminds us of the joy that can come from sharing. Your donation could give a child the joy of opening up a Christmas present where they’d otherwise miss out. The tradition of giving at Christmas started with the story of Jesus. According to the Bible, three wise men travelled to meet Jesus, bringing him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These were presents to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Sam is a young carer supported by Action for Children. He lives with his mum Sandra*, who has epilepsy, and with his two brothers, who are autistic. Life for Sam is anything but typical for a child his age. Sam was referred to Action for Children who provided him with a space to talk about his caring responsibilities. Action for Children took him on several day trips with other young carers to give him a break from his caring responsibilities.
